What is Olanzepine?

Olanzepine is a medication that treats mental emotional problems, such as psychosis or schizophrenia. Olanzapine can also be used to treat manic-depressive illness, bipolar disorder and other emotional and behavioral problems.

Tell you doctor if any of these applies to you:

  • pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • breast-feeding
  • frequen consumption of alcohol
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to olazepine, any other medicines, dyes, foods, or other substances
  • breast cancer
  • seizures (convulsions)
  • cigarette smoker
  • prostate problems
  • diabetes mellitus, high blood sugar, or a family history of diabetes
  • Parkinson's disease
  • difficulty passing urine
  • low or high blood pressure
  • glaucoma
  • kidney or liver disease
  • heart disease, arrythmic heartbeat, or a previous heart attack

How to use:

Strictly follow the directions on the presciption label. Take olanzapine pills with a sip of water. You can take olanzapine either with or without food. This medication ought to be taken at regular intervals. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Avoid taking two doses at one stroke.

Safety issues:

  • Stop taking olanzapine only when your doctor told you so.
  • Olanzapine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Until you know how olanzapine affects you, avoid driving, using machinery, or doing anything else that requires mental alertness. Try no to stand or sit up quickly, espicially if you are an older person. Avoid alcoholic drinks.

  • medications for cold, hay fever, or allergies

Possible side effects:

If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
  • tremors or trembling
  • agitation or hostile behavior
  • stiffness, spasms
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • changes in vision, inability to control eye movements
  • unctrollable tongue or chewing movements, smacking lips or puffing cheeks
  • changes in emotion or behavior
  • restlessness
  • swelling of face or legs
  • difficulty breathing
  • skin rash
  • difficulty swallowing
  • seizures (convulsions)
  • excessive thirst or/and hunger
  • painful erections
  • fainting spells, loss of balance
  • menstrual changes
  • fast heartbeat (palpitations)
  • inability to control muscle movements in face, hands, arms, or legs
  • frequent urination

What is the shelf life of the pills?

  • The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
