What is Tizanidine?

Tizanidine belongs to muscle relaxnats group. It helps to relieve, but not cure muscle spasms (or muscle tightening) caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis or injuries to the brain or spine.

Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:

  • you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • you have liver or kidney disease
  • you have an unusual or allergic reaction to Tizanidine, other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
  • you have mental disorders
  • you have heart or blood vessel diesase
  • you have low blood pressure

How to use:

  • Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
  • Do not take with food
  • Follow the directions on the prescription label
  • Take your doses at regular intervals
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember
  • Avoid taking double or extra doses

Safety issues:

  • Tizanidine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other tasks that reuire mental alertness until you know how Tizanidine affects you.
  • Your mouth may get dry. To prevent this chew sugarless gum or suck hard candy, or drink plenty of water.

What medicines may interact with Tizanidine?

  • rofecoxib
  • acetaminophen
  • phenytoin or fosphenytoin
  • alcohol
  • antihitamine medicines for colds, hay fever or allergies
  • baclofen
  • medicines for pain
  • benzodiazepine or sedative medicines for treating anxiety or to induce sleep
  • medicines for mental depression or other mental disorders
  • barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures
  • medicines for high blood pressure

Possible side effects:

If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • confusion
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • dizziness or faintin spells
  • unusual or persistent rash
  • excitability, nervousness
  • stomach pain
  • low boood pressure
  • slow or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, or chest pain
  • nausea or vomiting
These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
  • tiredness or weakness
  • blurred vision
  • dry mouth
  • constipation
  • drowsiness

What is the shelf life of the pills?
