What is Diclofenac?
Diclofenac is an anti-inflammatory drug. It is used to treat joint pain, inflammation, stiffness, or swelling caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteo arthritis.Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:
- you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to aspirin or an NSAID (eg, ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib)
- you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, dietary supplement, or herbal preparation
- you are allergic to Diclofenac, any other medicine, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
- you drink alcohol
- you have a history of kidney or liver problems, the blood disease porphyria, bleeding problems, lupus, heart disease, ulcer problems, or high blood pressure
- you have asthma; bone marrow depression; canker sores; or a hole, bleeding, or destruction of tissue in the stomach or intestines; or you are dehydrated
How to use:

- You may take Diclofenac either with or without food
- Do not take magnesium-containing antacids while taking Diclofenac. If an antacid is needed, use one with calcium or aluminum.
- If you miss a dose of Diclofenac , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Safety issues:
- Diclofenac may cause drowsiness. This effect may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Diclofenac with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
- Diclofenac may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Diclofenac. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time.
- Diabetes patients - Diclofenac may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
- Women who are able to become pregnant should use effective birth control while they are taking Diclofenac. Talk with your doctor if you are unsure of effective birth control methods.
What medicines may interact with Diclofenac?
- quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin)
- lithium
- cyclosporine or methotrexate
- selective serotoin reuptake inhibitors (eg, fluoxetine, paroxetine)
- anticoagulants (eg, warfarin)
Possible side effects:
If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:- yellowing of skin or eyes
- severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, hives, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth, lips, face)
- weight loss
- vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- black, tarry stools
- vision or hering problems
- vaginal bleeding after menopause
- bleeding and ulcers in the stomach and intestines
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- trouble breathing
- sore throat
- severe diarrhea
- dark urine
- fever
- heart failure
- loss of appetite
- increased liver injury
- increase in asthma attacks
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- upset stomach
- swelling
- dizziness or drowsiness
- stomach pain
- nausea
- gas
- headache
- indigestion
What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
