What is Topiramate?

It is used for treating certain kinds of seizures (convulsions). Sometimes it is given to people with migraine headaches.

What should you tell your doctor before taking topiramate:

  • If you are allergic to Topiramate, any other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • If you are taking other harbonic anhydrase inhibitors (such as acetozolamide , or others)
  • if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • if you are breast-feeding a baby

How should I take topiramate?

Strictly follow the instructions, written on the medicine's label. Topiramate may either be taken with or without food. There's a possibility of kidney stones forming, so drink plenty of fluids while taking Topiramate.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss the dose, take it as soon as possible. Be careful not to take the double dose.

If only one dose was missed, you can take the rest of your scheduled doses for the day at evenly spaced intervals.

What drug(s) may interfere with topiramate?

  • amitriptyline, carbamazepine, hydantoins (such as phenytoin), or metformin
  • respiridone
It is essential to tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, nutritional supplements or herbal products. In addition, don't forget to alert your doctor, if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you take illicit drugs, or if you are a smoker. If your condition haven't improved in 2-3 days, you should contact your doctor.

Until you know if loratadine makes you drowsy or dizzy, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness.

Do not sit or stand up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells.

Avoid drinking alcohol.

  • significant weight loss
  • speech problems
  • stupor
  • unexplained fever
  • unusual eye movements
  • unusual tiredness
  • urinary incontinence
  • urinary tract infection.

  • Abnormal skin sensations (numbness or tingling, decreased sensitivity)
