What is Esomeprazole?
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It is used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients with a history of irritation and swelling of the esophagus when medicine cannot be taken by mouth. It can also be used to treat ulcers, certain bacteria in the stomach, too much acid in the stomach, inflammation ot the esophagus, and to prevent ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs.
Alert your doctor if any of these apply to you:
- you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- you are allergic to Esomeprazole, other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
- you have liver disease
How to use:
- Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
- Take your doses at regular intervals
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can
- Avoid taking double or extra doses
Safety issues:
- It can take several days of therapy with esomeprazole before your stomach pains improve.
- Check with your doctor if your condition does not improve, or if it gets worse.
- You can take antacids for the occasional relief of pain unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
