What is Domperidone?

Domperidone is a medicine that increases the movements or contractions of the stomach and bowel. Domperidone may also be used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by other drugs used to treat Parkinson's disease.

Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:

  • you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • you are allergic to Domperidone, any other medicine, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
  • you are taking any prescrpition or nonprescription medicine, dietary supplement, or herbal preparation
  • you have liver disease
  • you have pituitary (brain) tumor
  • you have bleeding from the stomach or other problems involving the bowels

How to use:

  • Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
  • Advert to Medication Guide if necessary
  • Take your doses at regular intervals
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can
  • Avoid taking double or extra doses

What drugs may interact with Domperidone?

  • Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (furazolidone [e.g., Furoxone], phenelzine [e.g., Nardil], procarbazine [e.g., Matulane], selegilene [e.g., Eldepryl], tranylcypromine [e.g., Parnate])

Possible side effects:

If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
  • fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  • difficulty speaking
  • disorientation
  • dizziness
  • fainting
  • irregular heartbeat
  • lightheadedness
  • loss of balance or muscle control
  • swelling of face, hands, legs, or feet
  • swelling of the mouth
These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
  • tiredness
  • weakness
  • thirst
  • breast milk flowing from nipple
  • itching of skin
  • dry mouth
  • swelling of the breast in the male
  • headache
  • hives
  • itching, redness, pain, or swelling of eye
  • menstrual irregularities
  • pain in the breast
  • dizziness
  • drwosiness
  • loss of appetite
  • heartburn
  • leg cramps
  • mental dulness
  • irritability
  • sluggishness
  • nervousness

What is the shelf life of the pills?

  • The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
