What are clindamycin capsules?

Clindamycin is commonly used to fight bacterias in your organism. It is not used ti treat meningitis. Clindamycin belongs to lyncomicins antibiotics. To live and reproduce bacterias need essential proteins. Clindmycin stops the production of those proteins and kills bacterias.

Do NOT use Clindamycin if:

You have an allergy to any ingredient in Clindamycin or lincomycin. You have Crohn disease, meningitis, ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis. Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Clindamycin:

It is forbidden to use Clindamycin if you have any medical conditions listed below:
  • If you are a breast-feeding, pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • If you are taking prescribed (or non-prescribed) medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement.
  • If you are allergic to certain food, medicines or other substances
  • If you have one of this diseases: liver disease, diarrhea, a gastrointestinal(bowel disease), or you are allergic to tartrazine.
Alert your doctor if you are taking any medicines, esecially those:
  • Nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, vecuronium) or succinylcholine because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased.
  • Erythromycin because the effectiveness of Clindamycin may be decreased.
Consult your health provider about other medicines which may interact with Clindamycin.

How to use:

Use Clindamycin exactly as your doctor told you. Always check medicines labels for exact dosing instructions.
  • You can take Clindamycin either with or without food.
  • Take Clindamycin with full glass of water.
  • You can achieve best results with Clindamycin, if you'll be taking it at the same time each day.
  • Even if you feel better, don't stop taking Clindamycin.
  • If you forgot to take your dose, do it as soon as you remember. But be careful not to take the double dose.

Importnat information:

  • If stomach pain/cramps, diarrhea or bloody stools occur, contact your doctor immediately, because this could be a symptom of a serious side effect. In that case, you'll need immediate medical attention. Don't try to treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor first.
  • If you'll stop taking Clindamycin, it could have serious consequences.In such case, it's possible, that bacteria will no longer be sensible to Clindamycin or other antibiotics in common.
  • Some lab tests ( such as kidney function, complete blood counts or liver funtion) may be performed to monitor progress. Visit all appointed places.
  • Use Clindamycin with caution in the ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially diarrhea. Monitor carefully for changes in bowel frequency.
  • When Clindamycin is administered to CHILDREN (birth to 16 years) appropriate monitoring of organ system functions is recommended.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Clindamycin during pregnancy. Clindamycin is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Clindamycin , check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects:

Some people could experience side effects, some not ( or could have minor side effects). Those are most common side effects (contact your doctor in case you have any):
  • Vomiting, mild diarrhea, nausea, infrequent urination.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); severe or continuing diarrhea; severe stomach cramps/pain; stools/diarrhea with mucus or blood; yellowing of skin or eyes.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

  • The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
