What is Sildenafil?

Sildenafil is an oral drug for male impotence. Sildenafil selectively dilates blood vessels in thó penis, improving blood flow and allowing a natural sexual response.

Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:

  • you have an unusual or allergic reaction to Sildenafil, other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
  • you have an anatomical deformity of the penis, Peyronie's disease, or ever had an erection that lasted more than 4 hours
  • you have eye or vision problems or a rare genetic eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa
  • you have bleeding disorder
  • you have stomach or intestinal ulcers
  • you have diabetes
  • you have sickle cell disease
  • you frequently have heartburn or gastroesophageal disease (GERD)
  • you have liver or kidney disease
  • you have heart disease, angina, a history of heart attack, irregular heart beats, or other heart problems
  • you have HIV infection
  • you have high or low blood pressure
  • you have high cholesterol

How to use:

  • Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
  • Follow the directions on the prescription label
  • Don't take more than one dose per day

Safety issues:

What medicines may interact with Sildenafil?

  • nitroglycerin-type drugs for the heart or chest pain such as amyl nitrite, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, even if these are only taken occasionally
  • verapamil
  • alpha blockers
  • some drugs for treating depression, anxiety or other mood problems
  • bosentan
  • rifabutin, rifapentine or rifampin
  • certain antibiotics, such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, troleandomycin
  • quinidine
  • certain drugs used for seizures, such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital
  • certain medicines for the treatment of HIV infection or AIDS
  • cimetidine
  • nicardipine
  • cisapride
  • mibefradil
  • diltiazem
  • medicines for fungal infections
  • grapefruit juice

Possible side effects:

If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
  • skin rash, itching
  • changes in hearing such as loss of hearing or ringing in ears
  • prolonged erection (lasting longer than 4 hours)
  • changes in vision such as loss of vision, blurred vision, eyes being more sensitive to light, or trouble telling the difference between blue and green objects or objects having a blue color tinge to them
  • eyelid swelling
  • chest pain or palpitations
  • dizziness
  • difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
  • stuffy or runny nose
  • back pain
  • muscle aches
  • flushing
  • indigestion
  • headache

What is the shelf life of the pills?

  • The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
