What is Doxazosin?

Doxazosin is an antihypertensive. It is used to lower blood pressure and treat signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (DPH).

Alert your doctor if any of these apply to you:

  • you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breat-feeding
  • you have liver or kidney disease
  • you have low blood pressure
  • you are allergic to Doxazosin, any other medicine, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
  • you have liver or kidney disease

How to use:

  • Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
  • Advert to Medication Guide if necessary
  • Take your doses at regular interavlas
  • Don't stop taking Doxazosin until your doctor said so
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember
  • Avoid taking double or extra doses

Safety issues:

  • Doxazosin may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other tasks that require mental alertness until you know how Doxazosin affects you.
  • Although extremely rare in men taking doxazosin, contact you health care provider immediately if you experience prolonged and painful erection of the penis which is unrelated to sexual activity (priapism). If not brought to immediate medical attention, priapism can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction (impotence).
  • Do not take nonprescription medicine for weight-loss without asking your prescriber or health care professional. Also, do not take cough and cold, hay fever or sinus medications without asking your doctor.
  • If you are going to have surgery, tell your doctor that you are taking doxazosin.

  • water pills
  • other alpha-blockers such as terazosin, alfuzosin, tamsulosin, phenoxybenzamine, phentolamine, prazosin
  • tadalafil
  • vardenafil
  • NSAIDs
  • sildenafil
  • dopamine
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
  • female hormones
  • medicines for high blood pressure
  • methoxamine
  • metaraminol
  • medicines for colds and breathing difficulties

Possible side effects:

If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
  • swelling of the legs or ankles
  • difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
  • palpitations or pounding heart, irregular heartbeat
  • prolonged painful reaction
  • numbness in hands or feet
  • dizziness or drowsiness
  • fainting spells
These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
  • unusual tiredness
  • nausea
  • headache

What is the shelf life of the pills?
