What is Sucralfate?

Sucralfate is an oral gastrointestinal medication. It is used to treat or prevent the reccurence of stomach or duodenal (intestinal) ulcers. It is also sometimes prescribed for other gastrointestnal problems like mouth ulceration, acid-reflux, oę esophagitis.

Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:

  • you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • you have an unusual or allergic reaction to Sucralfate, any other medicine, foods, dyes, preservatives, or other substances
  • you have kidney disease

How to use:

  • Strictly follow your doctor's instructions
  • Advert to Medication Guide if necessary
  • Take your doses at regular intervals
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can
  • Avoid taking double or extra doses

Safety issues:

  • Therapy can take several days to feel your stomach pains improve
  • You may take antacids for the occasional releif of stomach pain unless your doctor tells you otherwise

These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
  • indigestion,gas (flatulence)
  • constipation

What is the shelf life of the pills?
