SULFAMETHOXAZOLE; TRIMETHOPRIM or SMX-TMP (SeptraŽ, Co-Trimoxazole, and others) is a combination of two antibiotics. It is used to treat severe infections of the urinary tract, infection of the intestines, and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in AIDS or cancer patients
Cotrimoxazole is an antibiotic that treats differnet types of bacterial infections. It is used to treat infections, such as bronchitis, ear infections (otitis), urinary tract infections, Pneumoccystis carinii pneumonia.
Tell your doctor if any of these apply to you:
you have kidney or liver disease
you have a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deiciency)
How to use:
Strictly follow your doctor's instructions.
Take each dose with full glass of water.
Cotrimoxazole may either be taken with or wothout food
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Avoid taking double or extra doses.
Safety sissues:
Cotrimoxazole may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

some medicines used to treat blood pressure and/or heart failure (ACE inhibitors, such as benazepril, enalapril, lisinopril, moexipril, ramipril, quinapril, and others)
If you experience these side effects, you should contact your doctor immediately:
yellowing of skin or eyes
an allergic reaction ( rash, hives, swelling of your lips, face or tongue; closing of your throat, difficulty breathing)
unusual bleeding or bruising
These side effects usually don't require medical attention (but you should contact your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
increased sensitivity to the sun
headache
fatigue
dizziness
nausea
vomiting
decreased appetite
diarrhea
weakness
What is the shelf life of the pills?
The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
